2009 Vidal Fleury Cotes-Du-Rhone Blanc

Aug 9, 2010

AOC Cotes du Rhone

This week’s Wine of the Week comes from J. Vidal Fleury, which was founded in 1781 and is the oldest continuously operating winery, grower and négociant in the Rhône Valley. It has been owned since the 1980’s by the Guigals, one of the Rhône Valley’s most well-known wine families. This wine is made from 100% Viognier grown on limestone and gravel soils and fermented and matured in stainless steel.

Viognier is one of those grapes that provides endless aromatic excitement for your nose. It typically has aromas and flavors of white flowers, peaches, apricots and honey mixed with an exotic spiciness. This wine would be beautiful paired with a variety of dishes, including a pork tenderloin topped with curried peaches or grilled scallops served with a fruit-based salsa.

For more information on this wine, please check out its page in our Buying Guide.

Youthful with a pale gold core and a clear rim
Medium plus intensity with a floral perfume note and a slightly nutty, white peach character
Dry, medium bodied with balanced acidity and fairly high alcohol. Notes of apricots, nuts, spice and honey with a hint of citrus flavors on the finish.
