2008 Mont Tauch Fitou Smooth & Fruity

Aug 2, 2010

AOC Fitou

Fitou is one of the oldest appellations in the Languedoc, having been granted appellation status in 1948. It is an all-red wine appellation located in the arid foothills of the Pyrenees to the south of Corbières, right on the border of the Roussillon region. There are a mixture of soil types that can be found in Fitou with clay-limestone soils on the coast and more schist on the more mountainous sites located further inland. The Mont Tauch Fitou is a blend of Carignan, Grenache and Syrah and it is the type of red wine that is perfect for pairing with your favorite grilled meats at a summer cookout.

While you might find the name of this wine, "Smooth & Fruity", to be a bit funny, it is a pretty good descriptor of the taste of this wine. The tannins of the wine, which typically give you a drying sensation on your gums, are soft and supple in this wine, giving it a "smooth" finish on your palate and emphasizing the ripe "fruity" flavors. Enjoy!
