2007 Chateau Lavergne Dulong

Jun 28, 2010

Les Grands Chais de France
Merlot-Cabernet
AOC Bordeaux Superieur

I’ve just spent the last few days in Bordeaux and so the wines of this region are very much on my mind (and my palate). Right now, everyone is talking about the 2009 vintage, which is quickly earning praise as one of the great vintages. Those wines won’t be available for some time though, so for those of you looking for some more immediate gratification, I would suggest the 2007 Chateau Lavergne Dulong. 2007 was initially a bit of a challenging vintage weather-wise. However, excellent weather at the end of summer and the beginning of fall redeemed the quality of the harvest and there are some very good values to be found that are drinking very well. The Chateau Lavergne Dulong is a blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc and has a lovely nose of cassis, lead pencil, vanilla and red fruits. The wine’s firm tannins mean that it would be a great pairing with a heavier dish, such as something made with duck, lamb or beef. Enjoy!

For more information on this wine, please check out its page in our Buying Guide.

Medium intense ruby with a paler ruby rim
Moderate intensity, notes of red fruits, cassis and a floral character
Dry, medium bodied with balanced acidity and alcohol. Firm tannins, notes of blackcurrants, lead pencil, spice and vanilla.

My husband just came back from the U.K. and had a stop over in Paris. In the airport he asked a woman what he could buy to bring home to is wife, that wouldn’t kill his pocketbook. She showed him this wine, 2009 bordeaux superieur!! It’s absolutley stunning.. Hoping I can find it here in the Bay Area.
