Lost in Francelation VLOG

Our sixth and final video finds us in the lovely Loire. Dan and I had a wonderful time visiting Domaine Marc Bredif and Clos de Nouys as well as some of the fabulous chateaux that can be found in the region. You'll also notice some of the delicious foods of the Loire highlighted in this video – food and wine go hand in hand in this region, which is nicknamed the "Garden of France." This video also features one of the most amusing moments of our trip – when I discover that sparkling wines and high altitudes don't always mix. Take a look and enjoy, and celebrate with us! Cheers!

What's Going On in the World of French Wines

I had originally thought I would try to make a salmon dish to pair with this week’s Wine of the Week tonight. But then at the grocery store today I discovered that they had a special on haddock, which is my son’s favorite type of fish and not one that I can find all that frequently here in North Carolina. So I decided to wait a few days on my salmon pairing and serve the haddock for dinner instead.

I considered keeping my original plan to serve the Marsannay rosé with the haddock, but then I had a thought. Why not do something completely different? I’ve mentioned a few times here on …

There’s quite a lot going on in the world of wine these days and so I thought it would be good to pass along some information that might be of interest to you all.

Tyler Colman, aka Dr. Vino, has a post up on his web site about his article in this month’s Wine and Spirits magazine. The article examines the question, “How often is the alcohol level stated on the label consistent with what is actually in the bottle?” Alcohol is a topic of great interest these days – not only for winemakers and the wine trade, but for wine consumers as well. Without alcohol, wine would not be wine, …

My goodness, it has been a busy week around here! The last few days have flown by in a flurry of last minute errands, attempts to enjoy the last few days of my son’s summer vacation and trying to fully understand the world of twitter.

Yes, that’s right, I’m a full-fledged tweeter these days. I tweet in two places – my own, personal account (SSMMW) and also for Wines of France (WinesFranceUSA). I’m finding keeping up with the wine world a pretty fascinating and sometimes challenging endeavor. On one hand, I love that I can read what people all over the world are doing, what they are drinking and what …

As I have mentioned in a few previous posts, I just got back from my summer vacation last week and have been getting caught up with mail, laundry and all of the general back-to-school preparations. Although I am a bit sad to be saying goodbye to the summer (mainly the vacation part), I always get excited by the thought of a new school year – I feel a little like the dad in those Staples ads singing “it’s the most wonderful time of the year!”

Even though I no longer get to go back to school, Fall still strikes me as a good time to start learning something new or better yet, an appropriate time …

I was watching a re-run of Cougar Town the other night and had to laugh at the scene where Jules says “they say you are supposed to be able to get 4 glasses out of a bottle of wine and I only get one and a half…I just don’t get it.”

Confusion about servings per bottle is a common wine issue and can be especially maddening if you are trying to figure out how much wine you might need for a dinner party or a big gathering. While Jules is right about the “they say” part that a good rule of thumb is that there are between 4-6 servings in a bottle of wine, what …
